L3103 PUBLIC HEARING COMMENT PERIOD NOTICE LEE COUNTY SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN AMENDMENT As required by the Alabama Solid Wastes & Recyclable Materials Management Act (SWRMMA), Code of Alabama 1975, §22-27-47, the Lee County Commission will conduct a public hearing to solicit public comment concerning a proposed Amendment to the County's Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP) that was last passed and adopted on December 8th, 2014. The Public Hearing will be held May 24, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. CT in the Lee County Commission chamber, 215 South 9th Street, Opelika, AL. Each city and county of the State of Alabama is required to develop and adopt comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plans which forecast and describe the management of solid waste generated within the local government's jurisdiction over a minimum 10-year period. The proposed Amendment to the SWMP is intended to give Lee County the option to change the County's method of collecting solid waste and recyclables from the current method of the public dropping off solid waste and recyclables at County convenience centers to curbside cart collection by the County, or by contract with private collection companies, or some combination thereof, if the County deems it advantageous to the citizens of unincorporated Lee County. This Amendment, if adopted, does not pertain to any incorporated jurisdictions who are not currently served by Lee County Solid Waste collection system. In order to affect final decisions or content of the SWMP Amendment, comments must offer technically substantial information that is applicable to the proposed Amendment.
