Grilled Salmon.
Something fishy happened this summer. Instead of the typical perfectly grilled chicken or juicy grilled steaks, Americans were searching for something else to grill this summer: salmon.
According to Google data spanning from mid-July to mid-August, grilled salmon was the most uniquely searched grilling recipe in 16 of the 50 U.S. states. But that’s not all the seafood folks were searching for during summer 2020.
When not ordering takeout or participating in novel social-distance dining, Americans in five other states opted to search for grilled shrimp recipes.
South Carolina's most uniquely searched recipe was grilled lobster tails, while people in Louisiana looked for plain lobster recipes. Massachusetts was on the hunt for grilled swordfish recipes, and Vermont was looking for grilled tuna steak. In total, some form of grilled seafood was the most uniquely searched grilling recipe in 25 states.
Other classic summer recipes that people sought out in the 25 other states included the classic grilled chicken, grilled lamb chops, pork chops and veggies.

Dairy Queen welcomes pumpkin season with 2 new flavors

DQ Pumpkin Cookie Butter Shake, Pumpkin Pie Blizzard Treat.
Although the summer heat will continue in the weeks ahead, the traditional fall flavors we love aren’t going to wait — and who wants them to? That's right, it's pumpkin spice season already. And Dairy Queen is leading the charge — starting Aug. 31, the chain will be scooping out two new pumpkin desserts.
The new Pumpkin Cookie Butter Shake is for cookie butter lovers and those who just can’t resist a hint of pumpkin spice. Ground cinnamon spice cookies are blended with pumpkin, DQ signature vanilla soft serve and milk and then topped with whipped cream and a sprinkling of nutmeg for a cozy, yet cool confection.
For those who go to DQ solely for their Blizzards, you’re not going to want to miss the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard Treat. In case you missed it last year, it’s back again. Treat yourself to real pumpkin pie pieces swirled into creamy vanilla soft serve ice cream and garnished with whipped topping and a powdering of nutmeg.
If you’re not ready for hot treats, don’t worry. There’s a lot you can do with pumpkin, and these new sweets are frozen so you can live your best summertime life while still getting excited about sweater weather and the stunning fall foliage that comes with the new season.
Both products will be available at participating Dairy Queen locations nationwide. Of course, it’s totally understandable if you want to hold onto summer for a while longer. Cool down with your favorite flavors at America’s best ice cream shops.
Swiss Miss has a seasonal hot chocolate in our favorite fall flavor

Autumn is right around the corner, bringing with it so many comforts, such as cooler weather, changing leaves — and of course, all things pumpkin spice. If you love pumpkin spice flavor but coffee isn’t your cup of tea, you’re in luck. You can savor all of the things you love about fall while sipping on a warm, creamy mug full of Swiss Miss Pumpkin Spice Hot Cocoa Mix.
Just in time for donning favorite sweaters, wearing thick fuzzy socks and spending evenings by the fire, Swiss Miss is rolling out its limited-edition flavor of hot chocolate. Each box will contain eight envelopes filled with 1.38 ounces of the cocoa. You can mix each packet with eight ounces of hot water (or warm milk for an even more decadent flavor) to make a cup of pumpkin spice and chocolatey goodness.
The cocoa mix is made using premium imported cocoa, nonfat milk, and real pumpkin spice flavor. It’s 99.9% caffeine-free and gluten-free and contains no artificial flavors or colors.
Go all out and top it with pumpkin spice whipped cream sprinkled with some cinnamon or, what the heck, some pumpkin pie spice. Or just stir up a simple mug for some quick warm fuzzies.
If you think you’re experiencing déjà vu, you’ll be happy to know that this is not a brand new product. Swiss Miss first introduced this flavor in 2019 as a seasonal treat, much like its wintertime favorite Peppermint Hot Cocoa.
Swiss Mix Pumpkin Spice isn’t on store shelves quite yet, but it is set to hit Walmart, Target and your favorite local grocery store in September with a suggested retail price of $2.49 per box. Once it is available, you can find a local retailer stocking it by visiting the Swiss Miss website.
You may also be able to find the Swiss Miss mix at Amazon sooner in 12-box (!) quantities, although it’s currently out of stock.
If hot chocolate isn’t your thing, you will no doubt be able to find plenty of other pumpkin-spiced items this fall, from Starbucks’ iconic coffee drink to Philadelphia Pumpkin Spice Cream Cheese Spread and Pumpkin Spice Cheerios cereal. You won’t be lacking for options this year!

Pillsbury’s seasonal pumpkin cookie dough flavor is now safe to eat raw
Licking the beaters is one of the best parts of baking cookies. In fact, eating the cookie dough is almost better than eating the cookies themselves, but it’s not without risk. Raw dough can make you really sick. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that you can contract E. coli or salmonella from eating raw flour and uncooked eggs.
But the lure of cookie dough is strong, so many companies have started making edible cookie dough in a carton, or in a bag of bite-sized chunks.
Back in March, Pillsbury acknowledged the trend when the company announced it was in the process of transitioning all of their pre-made cookie doughs — the ones you get in the refrigerated section at the grocery store — to a recipe that’s safe to eat raw.
Now, Pillsbury’s pumpkin cookie dough with cream cheese-flavored chips is hitting store shelves, and the recipe bears their “safe to eat raw” seal of approval. You can bake it like usual or just eat it straight out of the package, up to you!
Pillsbury’s pumpkin cookie dough is the perfect autumn treat, and those pumpkin spice flavors do lend themselves to that warm, fresh-from-the-oven yumminess. One package makes 12 big cookies … if you don’t eat too much of the dough as you are baking. They’re at Walmart for $2.50, or check your local grocery store for this limited-edition treat.
If you have another flavor of Pillsbury dough in the refrigerator and you aren’t sure whether it’s OK to eat it raw, look for the “Safe to Eat Raw” seal. According to Pillsbury’s website, they plan to have transitioned all of their doughs to the safe-to-eat-raw recipe by the end of this summer, but best to look for the seal as you’re shopping. You can also check their list of safe doughs if you’re getting groceries delivered.
So, how do they do it? “We use heat-treated flour and pasteurized eggs so you can now safely enjoy our cookie dough baked or raw,” Pillsbury says.
Other seasonal flavors are out now, too. Their salted caramel apple cookie dough is another fall flavor that’s safe to eat raw.
With the smell of these little apple pie-inspired cookies baking in your oven, you won’t be so sad to say goodbye to summer and welcome the fall. Or crumble the dough (it’s safe to eat raw!) over a bowl of vanilla ice cream for the easiest apple pie a la mode ever.

How to make a pumpkin spice latte at home

How to Make a Pumpkin Spice Latte at Home.
If you’re a pumpkin spice latte fanatic or just a pumpkin spice lover in general, you may have found yourself fantasizing about this sweet autumn treat on a cold winter’s day. We're talking about the kind of day where your home is toasty and you can't bear the thought of braving the outside cold. The good news is, you can actually make your own pumpkin spice lattes at home pretty easily with this recipe developed by The Daily Meal.
Here’s how to do it.
Serving size: one latte
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon canned pumpkin
- ¼ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- One dash black pepper
- One tablespoon sugar
- One cup milk
- One teaspoon vanilla extract
- One shot espresso
- Whipped cream
Preparation
Add pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice and black pepper to saucepan and cook over medium heat, constantly stirring until rich and caramelized.
Add sugar to pan and stir until the mixture becomes a syrup.
Reduce heat to low, whisk in milk and vanilla and blend with a hand blender until frothy.
Pour the espresso into a mug, top with the pumpkin milk and add a spoonful (or more) of whipped cream. Finish with an extra dash of pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon, and enjoy immediately.
By making your own PSL, you can control the amount of spices you use or even inflate the espresso content if you’re looking for an extra kick. You can also keep the pumpkin milk in the fridge to add to your morning coffee, and it honestly tastes pretty great on its own. It’s just one thing we bet you didn’t realize you can make with canned pumpkin.
