The Lee County Commission will meet tonight, where discussions will revolve around a proposed pipeline in the tri-state area.
Logan Gray, partner at Southern Strategy Group in Montgomery, is scheduled to give a presentation on a proposed natural gas project by Sabal Trail Transmission, a subsidiary of Spectra Energy Corp., that involves an interstate pipeline system that would cover an estimated 465 miles across portions of Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
In the report, it is stated that the pipeline was a response to a request for proposal from Florida Power & Light Company to provide natural gas transportation for their power generation needs by May 2017. It is estimated by Sabal Trail Transmission that the pipeline would be capable of transporting 1 billion cubic feet of gas per day.
According to the report, the estimated $3 billion project is currently in the early developmental stage and that FPL would likely award the project by July. It was also noted that Sabal Trail would seek out community response to the project as well as performing surveys to collect information.
In other business, Revenue Commissioner Oline Price is also scheduled to deliver an update on litigation and insolvencies within the county. County Engineer Justin Hardee is also scheduled to make a report on bids for a triple-layer bituminous surface treatment. County Administrator Roger Rendleman will give a presentation on master planning elements within the county.
The work session will start at 4:30 p.m. and the regular session will start at 6 p.m.
