Internationally recognized designer and Alabama native Natalie Chanin will headline the Women’s Philanthropy Board’s “Fashion and philanthropy: The art of making an impact” on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.
Chanin, founder and creative director of Alabama Chanin and founder of nonprofit Project Threadways, has earned national recognition for her innovative approach to fashion, design and craftsmanship, with her work featured in Vogue, Time and The New York Times. Through Alabama Chanin and Project Threadways, she brings together design and education to connect people, places and materials while demonstrating how creativity can have meaningful impact.
The day begins with a Fashion Trunk Show featuring Lily Jane Boutique, Alabama Chanin and Tiger Threads, followed by a special session with Sarah Jane Levine ’21, founder and owner of Lily Jane Boutique. A graduate of Auburn’s Apparel Merchandising, Design & Production Management program, Levine launched her boutique in 2018 while still a student and has since built it into a celebrated Auburn-based retail brand, earning recognition as the 2023 Gold Alabama Retailer of the Year.
Levine also works in cotton origination with Louis Dreyfus Company, building relationships with growers and gins and promoting sustainable cotton programs with brands. Her presentation will reflect the journey from an Auburn University student to an entrepreneur.
The event will culminate with a luncheon and keynote conversation with Chanin, offering attendees an opportunity to hear from one of Alabama’s most influential voices in contemporary fashion and explore how creativity, entrepreneurship and philanthropy can come together to make a difference.
