TULSA, Okla. – Troy men's tennis fell to Georgia and Liberty on Sunday in the consolation bracket at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., finishing its run in the tournament.
Starting off for the day, Ausias Martin Melo took on Maxime Dubouch in the PQ Consolation draw Round of 128 for singles play. Martin Melo lost the first set 6-3 but came back to win 6-3 in the second set. The Spain native battled, bringing Dubouch to the brink before falling 7-5.
Luciano Alcocer and Stephan Tavares Noale followed up later in the day with their doubles match against Siwanat Auytayakul and Rodrigo Santiago Arraez. The pair won the second set, 7-5, after Liberty claimed the first set, 6-4. The match ended with Auytayakul and Santiago Arraez winning a drawn-out set three, 10-8.
"Overall, we played at a very good level," head coach Rolando Vargas said. "We played very good teams and created opportunities, especially on the second day. We played so much better, and we settled better. We just need to be a little bit more defensive, but I'm happy that we were able to compete at this level. We just got to keep moving forward for the upcoming tournaments."
The Trojans will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 28, for the ITF Futures Tournament in Fayetteville, Ark.
